Hey, you know when I said I needed to improve my technique by roughly sketching out something first, before going over it in slightly harder pencil, and finally hard pencilling it in?
NAILED IT.
I guess what remains now is to become more confident as an artist. My brother is able to sketch something almost as cool as this in just a few minutes using this pre-sketching technique. As long as I do the same thing, I don't have to worry about making mistakes, and can just hone the piece to near-perfection in a way I couldn't with my previous technique of just winging it. No pun intended.
I suppose as well as being more confident, I need to be more careful at the same time. The pencilwork came out a lot cleaner than some of my previous work but there is still some work to do in that area. I'd clean it up in Paint.NET but... it wouldn't be the same. ...Or I'm lazy. Whatever. >.>
I'm no Joey Darkmeat yet. But I'd like to think I'm getting there at some rate.
I wonder if anyone will ever vector my artwork... ah, that'd be nice. ...Hient hient?

From the sounds of it you're learning a huge key to drawing there mate. simple or complex, every artist sketches out their pictures first - you wouldn't build a house without blueprints would ya? 
by sketching you can see how your pic is gunna turn out, fix mistakes or change things till you get it right. if your sketch looks good, then the finished piece is pretty much guaranteed to look good too ~ just "winging it" doesn't result in the same precise skill sadly (from somebody who did a lot of that 
) so keep it up mate! sounds like your on the right track
